European Union’s REKonstructed content in 3D to produce XR experiences

Aim of the project
- the adoption of the platform of guidelines and recommendations based on the results of the VIGIE Study 2020/654 for the production of 3D high-quality contents
- the use of the EUreka3D Data Hub made of computing and storage resources, and its extension with a range of tools and services for manipulating cultural contents, mostly in 3D formats, to create new XR datasets
- the exploitation of the programme of capacity building initiatives made of seminars, documentations, workshops and demonstrations initiated in EUreka3D, and its enrichment with new elements focused on the creation of XR contents and experiences.
MIRALab main contribution
MIRALab together with CUT will work on the implementation of the virtual reconstruction of the Saint Neophytos church and its inhabitants.
Sourcing and reusing documentary evidence, visuals, and frescoes from the XII century, the pilot will reconstruct the Saint’ tomb, the cell and the oratory of hermitage.
Using XR, visitors will see the reconstructed scenes and even Saint Neophytos and some monks on a big screen on location and online. The 3D reconstruction will clearly respect the quality of the CH information.
A first task will be the data acquisition from the monument, a second task will define the case specification by providing information regarding the Saint, his life and surroundings. The third task will be the modelling of a high-fidelity representation of the monument based on the digital capture of the place and its components. It will also include the narrative of the reconstructed liturgy of Saint Neophytos defining the staging of the scenario, participants’ viewpoints and interaction. Finally, Saint Neophytos and other monks will be modelled in 3D.
In summary, the pilot will include:
(1) Creation of the monument of the Saint Neophytos
(2) the case specification about the life of the Saint in the XII century and
(3) the 3D avatar of Saint Neophytos and other monks, and the living life around him.
This scenario will be produced by CUT. MIRALab will work on the implementation of the virtual reconstruction of the scene.
